Education

Mbakaou is small town near the MDNP’s MINFOF and WCS Headquarters. At present, there are few opportunities for local people or visitors to learn about the park’s wildlife or of ongoing conservation, educational or research activities at MDNP. CBPP is currently working with village leaders to develop educational programs that will help connect the community to their park.

The Mbakaou Wildlife Center provides a focal point for community engagement and as education and research extension for additional staff and student training.

Fosters awareness about conservation issues and the threats faced by MDNP wildlife.

Provides employment for community members, which promotes a blend of local and scientific knowledge (especially ethnobotany) that aids in understanding the socioecology of chimpanzees, instills local pride, and improves the conservation value for the species in these communities.
